Twitch, Discord and Kick each want emotes at a different size, so every Pinicon emote pack ships as one zip with a folder per platform. This guide shows how to add emotes from those folders to each platform.
What’s in the zip
After checkout on Etsy, the zip is in your Etsy account under Purchases and Reviews. Unzip it before you start, because none of the three platforms accepts a zip upload. Inside there is one folder per platform, named after the pack, such as Cute_Skull_Twitch_Emotes:
| Folder | Size | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Twitch | 112, 56 and 28 px, one subfolder each | Twitch subscriber and Bits emotes |
| Discord | 128×128 px | Discord server emoji |
| Kick | 500×500 px | Kick channel and subscriber emotes |
The number at the end of each file name is the same in every folder. 28_cute_skull_emotes_12.png, 128_cute_skull_emotes_12.png and 500_cute_skull_emotes_12.png are the same drawing, so once you’ve picked an emote for one platform you can find it straight away in the others.
Add emotes to Twitch
Open your Creator Dashboard and go to Viewer Rewards → Emotes → Subscriber Emotes. If you haven’t set an emote prefix yet, Twitch asks for one first. Click the + under a tier to fill a slot, or Upload New to put the emote in your Library without assigning it.
Twitch offers two upload modes:
- Auto-resize takes one square image between 112×112 and 4096×4096 px, under 1 MB, and makes the smaller sizes itself. Use the file from the 112×112 folder.
- Manual mode (switch Auto-resize off) has three boxes for 28, 56 and 112 px, each under 100 KB. Use the matching files from the three subfolders. Every Pinicon Twitch file is under 30 KB.
Manual mode takes a few more clicks, but chat then shows the 28 px file exactly as we exported it instead of Twitch’s automatic shrink of the large one. That matters most for emotes with small lettering, like NOTED or NOT TODAY.
The emote code is your prefix plus the name you type, so a prefix of pini and the name Ban make piniBan. New emotes show Pending Approval with a watch icon until Twitch reviews them. Partners in good standing and Affiliates who meet Twitch’s criteria skip the review and go live immediately.
A new Affiliate won’t have room for a 50-emote pack: the Library holds twice your subscriber emote slots plus ten, which Twitch puts at 16 for a new Affiliate. Start with the emotes your chat will type most (a ban sign, a laugh, a hype emote) and keep the rest in the zip for when you unlock more slots. Bits tier emotes, which open at the 1,000 Bits tier, follow the same rules and can use the same files.
Add emotes to Discord
In your server, open Server Settings → Emoji and click Upload Emoji. You need the server permission to manage expressions; server owners have it already. Use the files from the 128×128 folder. Discord’s limit is 256 KB per emoji and ours are under 40 KB, so they upload as they are.
Discord fills the emoji name from the file name, which gives you :128_cute_skull_emotes_12:. Rename each one to a word people will actually type, such as :skullban:. Names need at least two characters and can use letters, numbers and underscores.
How many fit depends on the server’s boost level. The Emoji page shows how many slots are free, and boosting the server raises the number. Members without Nitro can use your server’s emoji only inside your server.
Add emotes to Kick
Go to your Streamer Dashboard, choose Community under Channel, and click the + under Channel Emotes. Pick a file from the 500×500 folder, which is the size Kick asks for (PNG or GIF, under 1 MB), type the name viewers will use in chat, and save.
Every Kick channel can upload up to 60 channel emotes, which work only in your own chat. Affiliates and verified channels also get 24 subscriber emotes, which subscribers can use in any chat on Kick for as long as they stay subscribed. Those are added the same way, under Subscriber-only Emotes.
Use the same names everywhere
When you add emotes to more than one platform, keep their names in step. If the reaper holding BAN is piniBan on Twitch, call it :ban: on Discord and ban on Kick rather than three unrelated names. Viewers who follow you on more than one platform then only have to learn one word per emote.
The packs are licensed for your own channels and servers. Please don’t share the files or upload them for other streamers. If an emote won’t upload, message us on Etsy with the platform’s error message and the file name.
